There are those who suggest that fathers don’t matter, especially in this day and age. As Stanley’s dad, I felt it was my job to attend his appointments, help make decisions with the doctors, and to try my best to keep everything together. In various contexts, one thing I found interesting was how often people would tell me they were surprised that I was so present for Stanley, that most dads were not nearly as involved.

In so many ways, those comments strike me as tragic. Fathers play a key role in the family, for better or in some cases – sadly – for worse. In this section, you will find a father’s perspective on leading and supporting a family through the best of times and through the worst of times.
